Republican Strategy to Combat Illegal Immigration: Destroy the Economy!

bush and his magic immigration touch

Turns out Bush and his Republican cohorts managed to do something about immigration after all. By destroying the economy, they’ve made America a less desirable place to work, which in turn has decreased the amount of immigrants venturing into the U.S. However the Republicans didn’t stop there. They’ve screwed up the economy so royally that immigrants already working in this country are going home, as opportunities are drying up, an article in Time Magazine finds.

Isn’t it ironic that while Bush has always been a proponent of exploiting immigrant labor (as it is one of the 3 fundamental components of capitalism), against the will of his party, mind you, his policies damaged capitalism and therefore achieved the desire of his party to put a stop to immigration. It came at the expense of our economy and, perhaps, damaged his party beyond control, but who can argue with success right?

bush's train wreck immigration reform bill

It’s especially ironic since Bush was unable to get his way on immigration reform. Of course, by then, Bush had spent most of his political capital on Social-Security and Iraq like a jittery gambler at the track. I am thankful that he tried, however, since it fractured his party, underscoring the differences between the paranoid rhetoric and greedy capitalist actions of the Republican party. Suddenly Bush was confronted with charges that his grand vision of immigration included a vast Trans-American Transportation Corridor, four football fields wide, that would run from Mexico City to Toronto with no border inspections of cargo, dubbed The NAFTA Superhighway. Never mind that there is no convincing evidence that such a plan exists, it is completely feasible, especially since Bush supports inspection free boarder crossings for Mexican shipping trucks, eminent domain, increased immigration and free trade between ALL nations. The saddest part is, when you think about it, all these paranoid people don’t realize that in essence, the NAFTA Superhighway already exists! It’s not four football fields wide, but it ships cargo and American jobs to and fro none-the-less, all that’s missing is the inspection free borders, which Bush almost got. This combined with the administration locking American citizens away, never to be seen again and the approved plan to issue the REAL ID national identity cards armed with RFID radio transmitters to all citizens, has suddenly made the paranoid white Illumanati, New World Order crowd weary of the Republican base. Since so many of these people are also religious or Libertarian, both two pillars that got Republicans elected, it has helped to unhinge the wealthy business elite core from the lower class rank and file Repubs. It would appear that it will take more than empty rhetoric on abortion, gay marriage or family values to keep the heartland voting against higher wages, health-care, government backed tuitions for college and adequate care for our veterans.

In purely political terms, there has been no better friend of the Left than George W. Bush. He’s proved the hypocrisy of free-market capitalists who depend on government subsidies, he got the Religious Right to shoot their wad with almost no gain, he’s proven the fact that Republicans are no better at waging wars than they are at running a business (both terribly), underlined his appalling treatment of the very same veterans he sends off to combat, expanded government to its largest and most powerful size in history against the rhetoric he espouses and ultimately split open the poorly stitched gash in his party between the wealthy elite and the paranoid white-trash religious fanatics to the point of profuse bleeding. In essence, the Reagan coalition, that toppled the FDR or Roosevelt Coalition and brought about an era of blue-collar poor whites voting against their own interest is finally, at long last, coming to an end. It’s just a shame it took the near train-wrecking of our nation for the rest of Americans to see what we on the Left have seen for decades.

We are witnessing a political re-alignment in this country of profound proportions. Even if McCain wins in November, (I’ll be surprised, but then again, anything can happen in politics), the momentum in this country is shifting away from the fringes of the Right toward a more logical Center. It is the ideal stage for the Progressive Revolution I have been predicting since before the Millennium.

To quote a well known moron, “Bring it on!”
